Shoulder Injury

I posted several months ago regarding a shoulder injury of mine. A little back story - I used to be a jockey on racehorses and injured my shoulder significantly in a fall in September 2008. I tried some physio and re-injured my shoulder in April 2009 while riding a horse. I haven't ridden since and have been battling workers compensation and trying to get in to see a specialist for ages. Go Canada. Basic things like repetitious movements (playing cards), picking up anything with any weight, carrying a purse, gardening, etc. cause my shoulder to ache more severely than usual for several weeks. On a typical day, I have a dull ache in my shoulder surrounding my entire blade, below it and up my spine to my neck.

I finally had the opportunity to see a specialist/surgeon regarding my shoulder last week and am being sent for an MRI with a dye injection to search for a SLAP tear or any other type of tear that could be hiding deep within my shoulder. First, I would like to thank those of you here for pointing out a SLAP tear for me in my previous thread as when I mentioned this to the surgeon he immediately said that would be our first step.

I like to be prepared when I see doctors, especially after the runaround I've had over the last couple of years, so I like to conduct as much research as possible before I hit the office.

The surgeon also said if there is no tear (which he thinks there likely isn't) that I have most likely ripped my shoulder muscles off of my ribcage in my back. He also told me that if it is the latter and the muscles were ripped off of my ribcage that there is likely nothing he can do for me. This also means I will never be able to ride horses again and am going to live with severe limitations and pain/discomfort for the rest of my life.

I've tried doing some searches for some answers, but I'm having some difficulty because of the vagueness of what I'm searching for. I'm wondering if anyone may have some experience with an injury like this and if there is a possibility of fixing it if we come to find that is the issue? Of course I would be discussing this with the surgeon, but like I said - I like to do my research and come prepared.

I am hoping like hell it is a tear that they can repair, but I would like to explore my options just in case. I'm not sure how likely it is for them to basically reattach muscle to bone and if there is much success rate to it, especially when the incident initially happened over two years ago.

Thanks for reading bluelight <3

Yea hopefully, and I know this sounds counter-intuitive, you have a tear and not ripped muscles from ribcage. You obviously realize that a tear in a ligament would be better off in the long run then your muscle being torn as you described. Sorry I don't have any useful info just wanted you to know I read your post and i'm praying for ya man. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks. I never thought the day would come that I would be hoping to have a tear in my shoulder lol but it certainly beats the other option at this point.
